It's good to be king, whatever it pays

King 888 Super Cola

I have always enjoyed the line of King 888 energy drinks. They are classy, mature, tasty, and have a really good kick. I was really happy to here they had a new cola energy drink. Cola energy drinks went away from the majors and I never understood why. People like cola and people like energy drinks. Seems like a cola energy drink would be a hit. Maybe the others just got it wrong. Let’s see if King 888 got it right.

Packaging: Typical King 888 Super Coal comes in a 12oz slim can. The can is red metallic with a white diamond pattern over most of it. There is a black band around the top with the flavor “Super Cola” in a white font. Right in the middle of the can there is the King 888 logo which is in a awesome black and white font with a crown over the name. There is another black band around the bottom that reads “energy drink” in a white font. On the back of the can is the slogan and the nutrition facts.  I really love this red metallic color and the King 888 logo. 888 means good luck and prosper in china and that fits in well with this Vegas themed drink. The mature look will have older drinker feeling comfortable drink it as well.  Grade A+ for packaging

Slogans:  You get “Triple your odds bet on the King” or Stay Cool the King 888 way” These are great slogans for this drink. These are not generic energy drink slogans. These are specific for this drink and its image. Grade A for slogan.

Taste ect:  Cola can be a tricky flavor. You have to go against people expectations. The expectations come from either Coke or Pepsi most likely. If you make a cola be prepared to be compared to the big boys. I pop the top and get the typical smell of a cola. I pour some in a glass and it comes out a dark brown/black cola color with a medium carbonation. I take a sip and it taste like a cross between a Coke and a Pepsi. It’s not as carbonated as a coke and it has less sweetness than a Pepsi and more than a Coke.  I think it really will be a flavor that can appeal to fans of both. It goes well with food or over ice. It makes a super awesome mixer with rum or bourbon. I can’t imagine a better energy drink mixer. You can drink your usual drink and get your energy as well. Grade B for taste

Kick/Ingredients: I drank it fairly quick and it was smooth and comforting. I was really fatigued and hitting the mid day slump. Within minutes I was raised out of my slump and within 15 minutes or so I was well awake and ready to get through the rest of the afternoon with a real pep in my step. On another occasion I tried it with rum and it really kept the party going and I was still going strong after other had already worn down. It’s powered by 120 mg of caffeine, 1500 mg of Taurine, Guarana, Ginseng, Glucuronolactone, L-Carnitine, Inositol, and a whole lot of B vitamins. It comes in at about 160 calories and 40 grams of sugar.( I might be off a bit since the can I have is in ML instead of ounces).  I will give them a solid B for kick.

Web presence:  They have a nice site at king888.com. The site comes in 3 languages even(Spanish, English, and Arabic. They have all the usual stuff like a store, photos, and product info. The thing I really like is that the nutrition label for each drink is clickable and opens a nice description of each ingredient and its benefits. The site is nicely laid out and easy to navigate. King 888 also has a good myspace page. I’ll give them a solid B for web presence. I am cutting them a little slack for not having info on the super cola as it is new.

Recap:

Once again King 888 has impressed me. They really one of the drinks that do it all right. Great package, great taste, great kick, and a nice website. I hope you will try this cola when you get the chance. Forget your Pepsi am and grab a King 888 super cola in the morning. If you’re in Vegas this would be an excellent choice for some late night poker or Black Jack. If you are going out ask your favorite bar to stock some King 888 Super Cola. I’m sure it will be a hit.
