Hooked on Kronik works for me
Kronik Dragon Orange Protein energy drink Low Carb version
The first Kronik Protein energy drink I tried was the Dragon Berry. I chose the Dragon Orange Low Carb because I wanted to see if the low carb was as good. Kronik makes both of their flavors in regular and low carb versions.
Packaging: The Kronik Low Carb Dragon Orange comes in a 16 oz aluminum can that is an orange granite pattern around the top and the rest of the can is gold. The can is black at the top where it reads “Powerful Hybrid Dragon Orange Protein Energy Supplement” This is in a black font except for the flavor which is in a white font. Below this is a band of gold barbwire. The name “Kronik” is in a nice font that is made to look see through in that you can see the orange granite pattern through. It’s like the gold portion of the can is covering the orange pattern you would find on the regular version of Kronik Dragon Orange. The gold covering is what separates the low carb drinks from the full carb versions. “Protein Energy” which is in the middle and looks like it was stamped on. Below that is a large barb graphic that is see through like the name. There is also a little “Contains Omega 3” logo and a “sweetened with Splenda logo”. On the bottom is the slogan in white font as well as “Zero Carbonation”. Then at the very bottom is another strand of gold barb wire. On the back are supplement facts as well as a cool little blurb about the drink. Like the original versions of the Kronik protein energy drinks this one is a winner. Grade A. I like how they went with the “Gold” covering look over the original pattern. It is a nice effect and lets you know you have the same flavor but in a low carb version.
Slogan: Like I said before the slogan “Caution: Power Too Sick for Science” is just kick ass. Combine this slogan with the attitude and look of the can and it’s just works. Grade A+
Taste: After chilling it down nice and cold I pop open the top and get a nice orange scent with a hint of the whey protein contained with it. Pouring some in a glass it comes out a milky bright orange color that actually looks pretty tasty and has no carbonation(protein and carbonation don’t mix). Taking a sip I get a nice mildly sweet orange flavor with some good sweet creaminess. This reminds me of a creamsicle in flavor (creamsicle is an orange Popsicle with ice cream in the middle). The orange really works well with the whey protein to achieve the creamy orange delight that is this flavor. It has no aftertaste and the Splenda is not overdone and avoids tasting artificial. I will give them a grade of B+ for flavor. Not as good as the Dragon Berry flavor but very tasty.
Kick/Ingredients: I was curious if the low carb version would have as much kick as the regular Kronik Protein energy drink do. I am here to tell you it does! I was body slammed with massive energy with in minutes of finishing this drink. I was a tad jittery but that was ok with me. This drink got me going. I felt powerful and just wanted to do some heavy lifting or something physical. Maybe it is in my head but these protein based drinks just have that effect on me where I want to do physical stuff after drinking them. I was energized for 4+ hours like this and this time the crash was really not noticeable since it is low in sugar. This is a low carb drink not a sugar free one. It does have 3 grams of sugars(sucrose) mixed with the Splenda to sweeten it. Just like the other Kronik Protein energy drinks this one has 160 mg of caffeine, 2000 mg Taurine, and plenty of B vitamins to provide most of the energy along with the 3 grams of carbs and 70 calories All the good healthy stuff like Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 from cranberry seed oil, 64 mg of calcium, 10 grams of protein. Omegas are good for your heart, calcium is good for your bones, and protein is good for building muscle and suppressing hunger. All I can say is awesome. Grade A- for kick. Without the sugar you do loose some of the energy that you would get from the regular version. It is still mucho powerful though and I can do without the extra calories.
Web Presence: Kronik has a really nice site at kronikenergy.com. The site is well laid out and easy to navigate. It has a nice clean look and feel to it. There is tons of content there like ingredients info, a store, athletes and bands they sponsor, downloads photos, and more. They even have a Kronik radio you can listen too that plays songs from their bands! Everything is up to date as well. No coming soon or old events like so many sites have. The site fits well with the image Kronik has. They have a really good myspace as well at myspace.com/kronikenergydrink that they keep up to date with blogs by athletes they sponsor and even some kronik myspace layouts. No info on the Protein drinks yet but I’m sure as soon as they hit the market they will update the site. Grade A for web presence
Recap:
So this low carb version proves to me that my last experience with Kronik Protein energy was no fluke. It has massive kick! The taste is very good and unique. I love the gold covering on the can that shows it as the Low carb version. Of course the web presence is awesome as always and I appreciate a company that keeps their site up-to-date all the time. If you want to experience the awesomeness that is Kronik Protein energy drink and you’re looking to keep the calories and carbs down grab one of these. Fans of creamsicles might want to give it a try as well. Hell skip lunch and have a can. It will keep your hunger at bay and power you through to supper.
