I Know You Want Me, Want me

Pit bull Cranberry Pink Grapefruit

So recently I got some samples of the complete Pit bull line of energy drinks and energy bars. I have heard pretty good things about things about Pit bull products so I was looking forward to finally getting my hands on some. They have recently added 3 new flavors so I figured I’d start out with one of those.

Packaging: Your usual 16 oz can. The can uses some interesting graphics that give it an urban feel. The pictures of the fruit on the front I think look pretty appealing and gives you a quick visual as to the flavors inside. It’s nothing exciting or cutting edge but it gets the job done. I think it will work well for its intended market. To top things off it is in English and Spanish which is a good idea.  Grade C+

Slogan: “Attitude in a can” Ok so here is another company that gets it. You make a slogan that fits the drink name. Pit bull and attitude work well together. The slogan makes you think of aggression and energy. Grade B

Taste:  So I pop the top and get a nice scent of pink grapefruit. Pouring some in a cup it comes out a pink color with a heavy carbonation. I take a sip and I get a nice sweet pink grapefruit and cranberry. The grapefruit is the more pronounced of the 2 flavors and at the finish it is all pink grapefruit. It is tart and it is sweet with no bitterness or bad aftertaste. I like how the 2 flavors combine with each flavor covering the negative aspects you might find with a single flavor. The grapefruit smoothes out the tartness of the cranberry and the cranberry cover any bitterness you might get from the grapefruit. This is a very drinkable and soda like drink. I found myself craving one the next day and that says something. Grade A for taste.

Kick/Ingredients: I actually did have one the next day. Each time I drank this drink I got a really nice smooth buzz. It gave me a nice burst of energy and only a slight bit of jitters. Where I had been dragging ass I was now motivated and energetic. At home after I drank it I found myself getting up out of the computer chair and getting some stuff done and then heading out to party. At work when I tried it I got busy doing my job energetically even though it was a Sunday and that’s is usually a day where one might slack off(not that I would do that but you know just sayin). I got a good 4 hours of energy with a small crash one would expect from any full sugar 16 oz drink.  I got all this energy from per can  160 mg Caffeine, 1500 mg Taurine, Ginseng, Inositol, Guarana, Glucuronolactone, and a decent amount of B vitamins. You get this with 200 calories and 54 grams of carbs and sugars. It is sweetened with sugar and HFC.  Good solid line up and I give it a grade of B-

Web Presence: They have a site at pitbullenergyproducts.com that is fairly good as far as looks go. I’d like to see some better ingredients info though. They do offer some diabetic info for their sugar free drinks. They have a store, calendar, a gallery, and contact info. They also show they are available in a lot of countries outside the USA.  They have a Facebook, Twitter, and a Myspace but they all seem out dated. I think maybe they need to get busy with their internet presence. Grade C

Recap:

So with this new flavor I think they have really made a great tasting drink. It definitely ranks among the best tasting energy drinks I have tried and even among the best sodas I have had. This drink also provides a kick level that is in line with the big boys like Monster, Red Bull and Rockstar. I think I can easily say that this is a drink you should try. It is not the prettiest and they don’t have a super cool website but it is damn delicious and gives you a good amount of energy. I’d drink it for the taste alone. Check it out and let me know what you think.
