Atomic Dogg

Well when this was first released a few years ago I tried to get some samples. The company at least replied but were less than friendly and gave me a brush off. I did not let that make me angry but I really wanted to try it and it was not available locally. It did make me wonder if there was a reason why they did not want a review. I mean if you have a good product why not. I managed to get a can the other day (the only one left) at a local place I rarely visit. Let’s see what this drink is all about.  I won’t hold it against them since I always call it like I see it and my goal is to tell you if a drink is good or not. I am surprised though that I could find no reviews of this drink anywhere on the net.

Packaging: 16 oz can with an urban vibe. You have a big tough looking cartoon dog. I like the graffiti font and the brick wall background. Not sure about the brown color of the can. Brown makes me think of coffee drinks. I think a red brick wall would have served better here. Still over all a pretty good package. Grade B-

Slogan: “Nuttin but the dogg for me” is on the website and I have to say it is a damn good slogan. It is drink specific and not generic at all. It is also a fun and catchy slogan. Grade A

Taste: So I pop the top and pour some in a cup. It comes out a pale reddish pink color with a berry scent. I was totally expecting RB clone but I was way wrong. I take a sip and it is complex mixed berry. It is kind of sprite/7up like but mostly it is strawberry. It has a pretty high level of carbonation. There is no bitterness and just a hint of energy ingredients in the aftertaste. It is not as sweet as a lot of strawberry drinks so you avoid the stickiness. I’ll give it a solid B for taste

Kick/Ingredients: I had at least 6 hours left on my night shift when I drank this down. I was out of food to eat and I figured this would give me a good boost along with holding off my hunger (since it is a full sugar drink). I drank it down and it hit me in the typical 15 minutes. I had a lot of energy going and my mood was great I was animated and had plenty of energy to spare. Surprisingly I was not jittery at all. I had a good solid buzz for about 4 hours with just a little crash at the end.  Atomic Dogg is powered by per can 160  mg Caffeine, 2000 mg  Taurine, 50 mg Ginseng, 50 mg Guarana, L-Carnitine, L-Glutamine, Green tea extract,  and 200% dv for your B vitamins. It comes in with 220 calories and 56 grams of carbs and sugars. It is sweetened with sugar. Good call on using sugar instead of HFS. I’d say this drink holds its own with most of the mainstream 16 oz drinks. Grade B-

Web Presence: There is pretty much just a place holder at atomicdoggenergy.com and it says coming soon. It has been that way a long  long time. They also have a myspace but no one has logged into it in a year. They have a Facebook but it is pretty dead as well. Grade D+ for web presence.

Recap:

So I am surprised in a lot of ways by this drink. It has a nice flavor that is not a RB clone. The packaging is not bad and it delivers a kick on par with most of the big players. The only place they are lacking is in their web presence. If you can find it I say give it a shot. It may not give you the energy of a Jack Russell terrier  but it is no mutt.
