She dropped a bomb on me

B52 energy drink Low Calorie Citrus berry

Well I have tried the peach flavor of B52 and found it to be super tasty.  I was more than happy to find they had a sugar free drink. The flavor is listed as Citrus Berry and it sounds like it will be a good tasting drink as well.

Packaging:  B52 Low Cal  comes in a 16 oz black aluminum can. The can has some light blue text circling the top that lets you know the key ingredients. There are 4 light blue lines running down the center of the can. The B52 logo is in the middle and it features a B52 bomber blasting out of the can along with the name “B-52” in a cool retro red font. The phrase “Zero Sugar” is above the logo. Towards the bottom you have “Low Calorie Citrus Berry” printed as well.  I really like the light blue coloring which lets you know this is the low cal version. Of course the  B52  bomber is a good logo for an energy drink. On the back is the usual supplement facts and ingredients.  Nice printed(not shrink wrapped) can. It has a cool retro look that works well with the name.  I will give them a grade of B for packaging

Slogan:  “Refreshes and energizes mind and body” Not bad but I still would like to see something that ties in better with the powerful B52 bomber. I will give them a C for slogan.

Taste: Citrus Berry? Well Before I open it I don’t know what to expect really. Those two flavors are used widely in the energy drink world. Usually separately though so I am looking forward to tasting this combo. I open the can and I get a scent of berries as well as some underlying classic energy drink. I pour some in a cup and it comes out a bright translucent orange with a heavy carbonation. The foamy head is even orange! Wow did not see that coming.  Kind of like you don’t see a B52 because it is so high and your surprised when bombs come out of the sky. Maybe not as scary but still I was very surprised. I take a sip and I get some berry just a tad of citrus up front. This is followed by some strawberry and a tad bit of classic RB clone flavor. It is almost creamy in a way I can’t explain. The sweetness level is not over the top at all and there is no after taste or bitterness. Really I have to say this is one awesome tasting drink. For a sugar free drink I can hardly tell it is sugar free. It has a richness most sugar free drinks don’t have. Very chuggable! I give them a grade of A for Taste. Who ever is in charge of flavoring at B52 is doing a great job. I wish I had a few more cans to try as a mixer. I think this as well as the peach would be great with Vodka or Rum.

Kick/ingredients.  Since it tasted so good I drank it pretty quickly. I got a nice boost of energy. It started off slow and built up good over about an hour. The buzz lasted a good 3 hours and I was alert and clear headed. At the end there was really no crash to speak of. B52 ingredients include caffeine(99mg) Ginseng, Ginko biloba, Inositol, and Taurine; 800% of your DV for B12 and 250% of your DV of B6.  It is sweetened with Ace K and Sucralose and has only 10 calories, 1 gram of carbs, and no sugar. I will give them a grade of B- for kick/ingredients. Good boost and low calories,

Web presence: They have a website at drink-b52.com. The site looks pretty nice and sticks with the B52 theme of the can. It’s not one of those fancy professional flash sites but the lay out and overall look is very nice. You have product info, reviews, contact information, and distributor info. I really like the dark coloring and style. I will give them a grade of C for web presence.
Recap:

Once again B52 has come through with flying colors. This is a great tasting drink. It does not taste like a diet drink at all and is more like a nice soda than an energy drink in taste. It has a good dose of energy and vitamins and comes in a cool retro can. I don’t think you will find many diet type drinks that can stand up to this one. Give it a try.
