The urge to surge

Engobi Energy Go Bites Cinnamon Surge
Well just when you think you have seen it all someone comes out with a new caffeinated product. A lot of these are all hype and no kick. A lot of these products taste like the back end of a horse (don’t ask). Will Engobi break this mold and kick my ass with out tasting like ass?  I am excited to try something totally new.

Packaging: Engobi Cinnamon Surge comes in a 1.5 oz foil type chip bag. The Bag is Blue with the sealed top and bottom being a tan color. At the top is the name “Engobi” and “Energy Go Bites” in a yellow font. In the middle of the is a graphic of something like a starburst pattern or an explosion with the flavor “Cinnamon Surge” coming out of the middle like it’s blasting out. At the bottom is a picture of the actual Go Bite with the phrase “Infused with caffeine” next to it. The back has a funny little blurb about the product and the nutrition info. I’m giving them a grade of B for packaging. It is fun and it make you think of the product bursting with energy.

Slogans:  While there is not exactly a slogan there is a blurb on the back that provides what I think is really cool. The part that I like is “Prepare to get wired. I mean really wired” That is what it is all about right. I love it. I give them a B+ for slogan. They really need to play this part of the blurb up.

Taste ect: Opening the bag I am immediately hit with the sweet smell of cinnamon. Hard to go wrong with that scent. Very appetizing.   I grab a few and they are light and fluffy. Like a crispy puff or maybe a breakfast cereal of some sort. I am a little scared but I toss a few in my mouth and crunch down on them. They are crunchy with a cinnamon sugar and corn taste. I think they pretty much taste like the cinnamon twist you can get at taco bell which are really good. There is no caffeine taste at all, just cinnamon and sweetness.  There is plenty in the bag but even when I was full I had to finish them off. They are just that tasty. I give them a grade of A- for taste.

Kick/Ingredients: They smell good, taste good, and they are fun to eat. That is all good but do they get you wired as promised?  No doubt there. These little crisp had me up and going and downright wired and slightly jittery. The buzz lasted me a good 3 hours. These chips hit hard and fast 140mg of caffeine per bag along with 28 grams of carbs, 2 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber, and 220 calories. There is 11 grams of fat per bag but only 5 grams of sugar.  I will give them a B for kick/ingredients pretty potent and overall they are not empty calories and sugar. You actually get fiber and protein.

Web presence:  They have a fun little site over at engobi.com. They site is just plain fun and a little tongue in cheek.  They have a lot of fun and so will you. Check out the “whats inside section” for a good laugh. They have the things you need for a energy product website. About section, product information, video clips, contest, wallpapers, a store, and more. You’ll have a good time looking around on their site. I will give them a B for web presence. They also have a lot of hits on Google and a Myspace page.

Recap:

You know it sounded like it was a weird idea but after trying these it is genius really.  I really enjoyed these and it was a nice change of pace. I think this flavor in particular would be great in the morning with a cold glass of low fat milk. They also are good when you want a snack and you need a boost. No need to drink and energy drink and eat a bag of chips or such. Why not get both in on bag. The price is good also at only 1.29 per bag. I highly recommend you try these. I think you will be hooked. O and did I mention these will get you wired?
