We got the Beat

Go Girl GLO

Ok all kinds of people drink energy drinks. They come from all walks of life. With that in mind I thought I’d review an energy drink which is clearly aimed at women. I’m not a woman but I figure taste and energy are not really gender specific. I’m sure I’ll review others but for my first I’m choosing Go Girl GLO.

Packaging: Go Girl Glo comes in a slim 12oz aluminum can. The can is a baby blue and silver and is not shrink wrapped but is an actual printed can. Around the top is a white band with key ingredients listed. The can is split into it’s two colors horizontal. Right at this split is the Go Girl energy drink logo/name in white and blue font. Towards the bottom you have “GLO” is a funky font and below that it reads “Promotes Healthy Skin” At the very bottom it mentions that it has natural flavors and 35 calories as well as less caffeine. Back has nutrition facts as well as some paragraphs about the drinks qualities. It is a nice looking quality can that should appeal to its target market well. I give them a grade of C+

Slogan: On the can you have this. “Let your beauty GLO” Does not exactly grab me but then I’m not a woman. I think it is a good slogan for this drink. Grade C+

Taste: Ok so the can is light blue in color so I’m not sure what it will look or taste like since it does not have a flavor in the name either. I pop open the can and the scent I get right away is pomegranate. Pouring some in a glass it comes out a reddish brown color with a fairly heavy carbonation. I take a sip and it has a nice light sweet pomegranate taste with a fairly high sweetness to it. Pretty sweet for a drink with no artificial sweeteners and only 35 calories. There is some flavor at the finish that is star fruit I believe. I have had star fruit only a few times but I think this matches it pretty well. I get no aftertaste. I drank it pretty quickly and found it to be a decent pomegranate based energy drink flavor. I will give them a grade of C+ for the flavor

Kick/Ingredients: Ok so it says it has less caffeine but it does have 75mg per. I drank it really quick for a 12 oz drink and in about 20 minutes I was much more alert. I was not wired or anything but it was above what you would get from a mountain dew or cola. I had a slight crash a couple of hours later but nothing to serious. Key ingredients are Caffeine 75 mg, Taurine 500 mg, Super Citrimax (mild appetite suppressant), CoQ 10, and Aloe Vera. Now this is the first drink I have had with Aloe Vera in it and I assume that is for the healthy skin they mention on the can. There is also a small amout of B vitamins but not much. I will give them a grade of C- for kick/ingredients. It’s a decent mild buzz but they are lacking in the vitamin department which you need with a lower caffeine drink.

Web Presence: They have a nice little site at gogirlenergy.com unfortunately there pretty much no information about Go Girl Glo except that you can buy some. There is plenty for the original Go Girl. Really it is a nice site and the news section is even up to date so I know they pay attention to it. They just need to get the product info for Go Girl Glo on there. Otherwise you have News, a store, product info (no Glo info), events, and ingredients. The layout is very girl centric and is a good flash site. It looks pretty nice. I give them a grade of C- though since this is a Go Girl Glo review.

Recap:

I think this drink has some promise with the can design and the glowing skin part. I just think they need to ramp up the other ingredients like vitamins and maybe through in some other supplements like ginseng and inositol. I do believe that there is a market out there for a drink like this. I think it would do well with the women who usually drink 5 hour energy shots and such. Older women who are not seen drinking Monsters and Red Bulls. They are a more sophisticated demographic who still could use some energy and will probably go for this drink.
