Hype MFP energy shot

Another big player jumps into the shot market. Hype has been around a long time and they have decided to come out with 2 different energy shots. I am reviewing the MFP shot first. I have always liked Hype drinks so I have high hopes for this shot.

Packaging: Instead of going with the usual 2 oz white shot bottle they go with the 2.5 oz shiny black shot bottle that is similar to those used by Monster and Rockstar for their shot. I like these wide mouthed shot bottles and the shiny black plastic is nice. The MFP bottle has a label that is similar to the MFP drink with its carbon fiber pattern in the background. There is a silver striped band at the top and the bottom with the phrase “Energy Supplement” in gold font. The name “Hype” is vertical on the bottle in a large chrome font with “energy” in a smaller chrome font and “Shot” is a different yellow font. The overall chrome, black, and carbon fiber  look is nice but I don’t really get the yellow font used for the word “Shot” it makes the word stand out but takes away from the overall look. Grade C+ for packaging. Loose the yellow font part and you have a nice sharp looking package.

Slogan: Nothing on the bottle but found this on their website. “Believe the Hype” Nice job on that one. It is a unique slogan that goes with the drink name. Grade B

Taste: Ok so from what I can gather this is supposed to be a caramel flavor. I twist off the lid and get a sweet energy drink smell that is familiar. I pour some in a cup and it comes out a very thick and viscous dark yellow color. I take a sip and right up front I get a pineapple passion fruit flavor with some citrus and vanilla at the finish. This shot is very sweet and syrupy and the flavor lingers with you for a while. It is a very unique flavor for sure. If you can handle the thick syrup like consistency you might find it pretty tasty. Hype MFP has a flavor that will have you pondering it and then wanting another so you can try to figure it out. I will give it a C+ for taste. There is no bitterness at all but I have a hard time with all the sweetness.

Kick/Ingredients: I was in a bad way. I was hitting the wall hard and still had hours of work to do. I was losing my focus and just dragging. I had several choices of energy products to use to get me over this. I went with the Hype MFP and it was the right choice. I did not have time to drink a large energy drink. I needed energy now! I finished the shot and was in minutes smiling very big. I felt my energy level rise and my brain fog was lifted. Hype MFP delivered a big blast of energy that had me a bit jittery and going strong and hard. I tore through my work and afterward went home and had a quick hard ride on my single speed. This shot provided me with a solid 4 to 5 hours of energy with only a slight crash at the end.  So what makes this MFP Most full power?  125 mg Caffeine, 1000 mg Taurine, Ginseng, Guarana, Glucuronolactone, and a fair dose of B vitamins. You get 35 calories, 8 grams of carbs, and 7 grams of sugars. It is sweetened with Sugar and Sucralose.  I’m giving this MFP shot a grade of B.  They put some quality potent ingredients into this shot.

Web Presence: Hype really goes all out on their website at hype.com. The site has a fun layout with tons of multimedia going on like music and videos. They are not just all flash either but there is actually some substance to the site with drink info, mixed drink recipes using the “Hype shot glass”, downloads, a store, and more. It is a sight you might enjoy digging around on because who knows what you will find there. Grade B

Recap:

So I think Hype has jumped into the shot category in a good way. The shot is uniquely flavored, provides pretty damn potent kick, and comes in a cool bottle.  I say it is worth you checking it out if you get the chance. It is not going to jack you insanely up but it is going to give you a fast acting quality level of energy to get you through what ever you need to do.
