We are the youth gone wild

Live Original Energy Drink

This is my second Live energy drink to try. Like I said before the idea that 50% of the profits go to different charities depending on which drink you buy is a great idea. Of course the drink has to actually be good and that is what we are about to find out. Live Original energy drink has its charity as youth programs. Really who does not want to support youth programs?

Packaging: Live Original comes in a 12 oz slim can. This can is a nice glossy white with the bottom being light blue. I think this is the first light blue I have seen on an energy drink. It’s pretty much baby blue at the bottom. In the middle of the white portion you have the Live logo which is the word live  with the common charity ribbon symbol used as the letter v. On this flavor the logo is the same blue as the bottom of the can. Down in the blue portion it reads “Youth Programs” in a white font and also reads “50 Percent Of Profits Go Toward The Fight For Our Youth” in white font as well. On the right side of the can is a blurb about the charity concept and the phrase “Protect The Future” The back has nutrition facts. This is a very classy looking can. It’s not overly busy but it lets you know what the drink is all about. I can se where there is a market that would feel comfortable drinking this as opposed to your typical energy drink. It’s more upscale and mature.  Grade B+

Slogan: I expected the slogan to be the same as the last Live drink I tried but it is not. “Protect The Future” is the slogan for this Live drink. I liked slogan from the Live Sugar free better but this one is good as well. I do like the fact that the different flavors have different slogans that fit each drink. I give this on a grade of B+

Taste: Popping the top I am hit with a sweet citrus smell. I pour some in a cup and it comes out a green/yellow color with a medium carbonation. I take a sip and it a really nice blended citrus flavor. Maybe it is a bit similar to mountain Dew in flavor but less sweet and some hints of cherry in there as well. There is no after taste at all. I like that the level of sweetness is not over the top and it’s not too lemony like some citrus drinks. I found it to be delicious and drank it down pretty quickly. Grade B for taste

Kick/Ingredients: I was hitting the afternoon slump when I hit the live Original. After I finished the drink I was definitely more alert and my sleepiness was gone. My brain cleared up and I had plenty of energy to get me through to the end of the work day. I had a nice jitter free boost that lasted a solid 4 hours with only a slight crash from the sugar.   The energy in Live original comes from Taurine, Caffeine, inositol, Glucuronolactone, B vitamins, and organic cane sugar. There are 120 calories, 32 carbs, and 32 grams of sugar.  This is a natural drink with no artificial flavors to top things off.
I will give it a grade of B for kick. Not over the top but a nice buzz especially for the office or school where you are alert and focused.

Web Presence: drinklive.org  Fits well with the whole live. It fit well with the packaging and the mature classy look. It is easy to navigate and kept up-to-date . It has sections on Mission, Causes, Flavors, events, community, and retailers.I still think it could use more ingredients information. I do like that you can get more information on the actuall charities that Live supports. They also have a facebook group. I will give them a B- for web presence.

Recap:

Live has a premium look and feel and really should have a great market spot in the crowded energy drink world. The charity idea is just awesome. Sure many other drinks say they support this or that charity but Live tells you how much and it is a lot. Please if you see any of the live drinks pick one up and try it. It will help you quench your thirst, give you energy, and you will be helping others because you bought it.
