Man you gotta be crazy

Loco Tonic energy shot

So while strolling through my local closeout/discount I came up this little beauty here. I had tried the drink of the same name but this was the first I had heard of the shot. I never reviewed the drink but I figured why not have a go at the shot.

Packaging:  Ok so it is a 2 0z shot bottle but it is a little slimmer and taller then your typical energy shot bottle. The label is a bright yellow that really catches your eye. The graphic of the smiley face sticking out it’s tongue and wearing a sombrero is very campy and silly. I do like the font of the loco Tonic part though and the caffeine amount is listed on the back. Grade C- for packaging.  This package makes it look cheap and more like a novelty product, Novelty products are usually only bought one so I think that is not a good look if you want repeat customers.

Slogan: “Let your body go sonic” is their slogan and it is ok. Sonic rhymes with tonic so they have that making it catchy. Grade C+
Taste:  So I open the little bottle and pour out a very brown liquid. I take a sip and it is super sweet. It fact I would call it cloyingly sweet and just over the top. The flavor seems to be a kind of berry with a strange finish that I just can’t pin down. I will say there was no bitterness or medicinal taste at all. Aside from the super sweetness it is not too bad though. Grade B-
Kick/Ingredients: So I was expecting a just average buzz from this novelty looking shot. I was surprised though when in the typical 15 minutes I was very alert. I had a high level of energy and I was in a much better mood than before. Not a super buzz but a pretty strong one that got me moving and becoming very talkative. I had a good solid buzz for around 4 hours with no crash. Loco Tonic is powered by  200 mg caffeine, Taurine, Ginseng, Guarana, L-Carnitine , and moderate amounts of B vitamins. It comes with 0 calories, 0 carbs, and 0 sugar. It is sweetened with Splenda brand sucralose and Ace k. I give this shot a solid B for kick/ingredients

Web Presence: The site at locotonic.com looks just a cheesy as the packaging. Still it is not bad at all. It provides so good ingredients info as well as information about the company and its officers. They also list some celebrity endorsements. There is a store as well as a promotions section. Not super professional but easy to navigate and useful. Grade B

Recap:

I have to say I was very surprised. The shot as well as the people behind it(I read their Bios) seem much more professional  than their packaging would lead one to believe. I think if the relabeled these drinks they would have a good chance at making a dent in the shot market. These shots have a unique/good taste and deliver a very solid kick and if you can get some I suggest you give it a try.
