America, this is our moment. This is our time.

Obama Energy drink

I’m not always a fan of promotional energy drinks but really as an energy drink collector how could I pass this one up. No matter which side you’re on this is a great collector item. I’d be happy to purchase a McCain energy drink if I could find one. These are sold in 4 packs and with each four pack purchased 1 dollar goes to the Obama campaign. I’m hoping it is at least an average drink on par with a RB.

Packaging:  Comes in the typical 8.4 oz slim can. The can is wrapped with a photo of Barack Obama arms crossed with an American flag waving behind him. The rest of the background is a blue to silver fade. At the top of the can it reads “Obama” in a white font and then “Energy” below that in a red font. The back has supplement facts. Over all I have to say it works out pretty well with shrink wrapped label looking better than many I have seen quality wise. I like the way Obama is smiling and the flag in the background works well. I’ll give it a B- packaging. I think it is very collectable and really will appeal to Obama fans as well as energy drink collectors.

Slogan:  Man there is a lot of room for a nice slogan here really. Sadly there is none on the can. I did find one on their website though. “The first energy drink for everyone that needs a positive change” Works for this package and I give them a C+

Taste: Popping the top I get the scent I expect of RB clone. Pouring some in a glass it comes out a caramel color with a medium carbonation. I take a sip and it taste like your average red bull clone but not near as gummy and with less aftertaste. I think it leans a little more towards the white grape taste than the apple. I am surprised that it taste this good. It is formulated in Austria and made in the USA. It seems it is made by bevprivatelabel.com who make a lot of private label energy drinks for companies and apparently make a pretty good tasting on at that. Grade C+ for taste. If you like Red Bull you will probably like this one a little better actually. I had no problem downing it in short fashion.

Kick/Ingredients:  Ok so will it measure up in the kick department? I drank it in the morning when I needed to get going. It took about 10 to 15 minutes then I was pretty alert. The buzz lasted a good couple of hours and really had little to no crash. I would put it on par with most RB 8.4 oz clones and then some. Ingredients are Taurine, caffeine, Glucuronolactone, Inositol,  a good dose of B Vitamins and 100% of your dv for vitamin C. It comes in at 120 calories and 28 grams of carbs. It is sweetened with HFCS. I give it a solid C+ for kick. It really is more than I expected and was a notch above average.

Web Presence: Well they actually have a site at obamaenergydrink.com that is ok. It’s not like this is a long term product so I don’t expect them to go all out and hire a big company to make them a flashy site. It gets the job done with. It has minimal product info but you can order the drinks through ebay, paypal, and ebay. I will give them a D for web presence though. The Amazon link shows out of stock and I want more ingredients info.

Recap:

Really I was expecting only a novelty but it turns out this company makes a passable energy drink and are not all gimmick. I’m sure it is a drink even Joe the plumber might enjoy! I suggest you get some for your collection as I feel this will be gone soon after the election. In the mean time if you see some McCain energy drinks please let me know.
