WTF?

Plan Top

So I saw this on ebay and decided to give it a shot. Passion fruit is a good flavor and you don’t see many drinks with that flavor. The name is a bit strange but hey I figured it was worth checking out.

Packaging: Comes in your typical 8.4 oz can with a nice printed on label. The label is split down the middle with one side red and the other silver. At the top it reads Energy Drink in a red and a white font. Below that it reads “Passion Fruit Flavor”. All this is repeated in Spanish as well. In the middle of the can is a martini shaped black image with the name “Plan Top” in the middle of it in a weird white font. Bottom right has an image of a passion fruit and bottom left tells us it is Taurine free. Back has nutrition facts. With things in 2 languages this is one cluttered can. Over all the label just has a cheap look to it. I give it a D+ for packaging

Slogans:  On the website I found “It wakes up your senses” which is ok but does not exactly scream energy to me. Still I give it a grade of C

Taste: I open the can and I am surprised that it has that classic energy drink smell. Pouring some in a glass it is a light champagne color and has low carbonation. I take a sip and initially I get a bit of classic energy drink taste but it is quickly washed away by a mellow passion fruit flavor. It’s not a real strong flavor but it is pretty tasty. It fades into a dry finish and the passion fruit flavor lingers on the tongue after you are finished. There was no bitterness at all or chemical taste.  I am glad they went with a unique flavor. I give it a grade of B- for taste

Kick/Ingredients. I drank in the early morning in hopes of waking up and getting things going. I am sorry to say I experienced only a mild boost that would be on par with a cup of coffee. I mean a cup not a big steaming mug of coffee. The energy faded in about 2 hours and there was no crash(hard to crash when you were never up). Amounts of ingredients are not listed but include  caffeine Guarana, Schizandra, and ginseng. That is it there are no vitamins or other energy ingredients. You get 140 calorie, 33 grams of carbs, and 32 grams of sugar. It is sweetened with sugar. I give it a grade of D for kick/ingredients.

Web presence:  They have a website at plantop.eu that mostly looks like a late night infomercial. I mean a low budget one at that. I mean there is some information there and the site is available in several languages. They have a news section, contact, about us, and more. They really seem to hate Taurine and Glucuronolactone. . I think this is because it is not allowed in some countries so they try to play it up like they are bad for you since they put them in the drink. They also need a proof reader since their translation is pretty funny to read.  I will give them a C- for web presence

Recap:

Well maybe this will work in some countries but I don’t really see how it can compete here in the USA(or really anywhere else). This drink really needs a total make over to even look good. The name is just strange and the can is cheesy and cluttered. The kick is not even average. Only thing good is the taste so I guess this would make a good soda. I feel bad since I know people put effort into this drink but I have to recommend you avoid it unless you just want a passion fruit soda.
