POM Iced Coffee Chocolate and Café au Lait flavors

So I saw this a while back and was very curious. POM make high end healthy pomegranate drinks. First off I’m thinking pomegranate and coffee would make for a nasty tasting drink. Then after doing some research I discovered that there is no pomegranate juice here only a super anti oxidant extract from pomegranates.
Packaging: This is one thing that attracted me. It a squat little plastic bottle with a cool unique shape. I like the spiral pattern on the label and the POM logo with the heart in it is pretty nice as well. It also has quite a bit of good info on the back of the bottle but the front is clean and uncluttered. I like this little bottle. Grade B+
Slogan: “The Healthy Buzz” is there on the bottle cap and it’s not bad. It gets the message across that this is more than just an iced coffee drink. Not catchy or fun but not bad. Grade C+
Taste:
- Chocolate: The chocolate is a dark brown chocolate scented liquid. It tastes an awful lot like good chocolate milk. I really get no coffee flavor coming through even at the finish. It taste good with not aftertaste or wired pomegranate flavors. The mouth feel is just like a coffee drink should be. I really think you should taste some coffee though. Grade B-
- Café au Lait: This flavor has a light milky coffee look and smell. The taste is a sweet creamy coffee. It is not overly sweet and not overly thick like some coffee drinks. You can taste a mild coffee flavor at the finish but it is not real strong. If you like coffee like I do then this is the best of the flavors I think. Once again no weird pomegranate flavors or anything. I like the fact that I feel like I’m drinking coffee and not some weird bottled or canned drink. Grade B
Kick/Ingredients: Well each of these drinks is a little different ingredients wise which surprises me.
- Chocolate: I got a nice buzz when I drank this one afternoon. I needed a boost but was not in the mood for an energy drink and did not want a hot cup of coffee. After I drank this drink I got a nice boost of energy. It was not jittery but it was better than expected and lasted 2 to 3 hours. It was above your typical cup of coffee. Ingredients include Caffeine 175 mg, non fat milk, organic cane sugar, Rain forest alliance certified coffee, and POM’s unique pomegranate antioxidant extract. You get 170 calories, 0 grams of fat, 49 grams of carbs, and 30 grams of sugar. Grade B-
- Café au lait: I arrived to work a night shift on a warm muggy day. I did not want a hot cup of coffee so this was a good fit. It really got my night rolling at a good pace providing me with a solid burst of energy for the first 3 hours then no crash at the end. This flavor has Caffeine 175 mg, Reduced fat milk, Rain forest alliance certified coffee, POM’s unique pomegranate antioxidant extract, and Organic cane sugar. You get this with 170 calories, 3 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbs, and 20 grams of sugar. Notice this flavor has coffee listed higher in the ingredients list. Grade B-
Web Presence: The site at healthybuzz.com is a pretty fun flash type site with its leaping sheep. It’s more than fun though providing a lot of good product info about their coffee. They have nutrition info as well as healthy and a buzzy section. Overall not bad. Grade C+

Ok so I admit I was surprised by this drink. The chocolate flavor was a bit of a let down from a coffee standpoint but the au Lait made up for that. These are a nice healthy alternative to your usual coffee drinks made with good wholesome ingredients (unless you’re watching your sugar intake) and a fair dose of sweet caffeine. My only problem would be that they are on the pricey side coming in at 2.99 per 10 oz bottle.
