Recon Coffee Energy Cola

I saw these a while back and tried but could not get any. Then a few weeks ago they hooked me up with some samples. I was very happy needless to say. Will it turn out to have been worth the wait?
Packaging: This is what originally drew me in. Recon comes in a 12 oz slim can. The can is entirely covered in a camo design of greens and browns. The name “Recon” is in black outlined font that is camo inside and pretty much part of the whole camo design. To me the name is easy to see and is almost 3d like in that it stands out and yet it blends in. There is a bullet list of benefits in a small black font and nutrition facts on the back. I give it a solid B for packaging.
Slogan: “Deliberate Energy” is the slogan on the website and it is a good one. To me it is very stern and serious which fits well with the military theme. Grade A- for slogan. No it is not catchy or fun but it is unique and drink specific.
Taste: It says right on the can “Coffee energy Cola” so I kind of know what to expect. Popping the top I get a strong pleasant coffee scent. Pouring some in cup it comes out a dark cola color with a heavy level of carbonation. Taking a sip I get a strong coffee flavor up front but then the cola flavor kicks in followed by just a tad bit of vanilla at the finish. It truly is a coffee cola. I have to admit I was expecting it to be just a carbonated coffee. I think the carbonation level really pulls it all together nicely and I tried half the can over ice and it was even better. I’m giving this a grade of A- for taste. It is a totally unique cola coffee blend that is very refreshing iced down. Of course if you don’t like coffee this will probably not appeal to you but for others I think you will enjoy it.
Kick/Ingredients: Ok so I put Recon to the ultimate test of my first nightshift of a set. Of course I am basically staying awake 24 hours so keeping my energy and alertness up is a difficult task. I drank it as I was feeling that I was about to crash. In 15 minutes my level of energy had increased back to what it was 9 hours earlier when I had arrived at work. That is a pretty good increase in my book. It was a smooth energy that lasted me the last 3 hours of work (I work 12 hr shifts) and then kept me alert through the drive home to boot. There was no crash from this mid level buzz. So what’s in it? Well it has caffeine, a fair amount of B vitamins, and 100% of your DV for vitamin C. There are zero calories, carbs, and sugar. It is sweetened with Sucralose and Ace K. The amount of caffeine is not listed anywhere but I’m guessing it is the usual 80 to 100 mg. Grade C for kick/ingredients.
Web Presence: There is a website at jumpbeverages.com that is not to shabby. It does not offer a lot besides the ingredients labels for their various drinks and a store. There are some images and a page about their support for the military (the drinks is Endorsed by the United States Department of Defense) It is easy to get around on and looks fairly nice. I give it a grade of C- for web presence. It gets the job done but I’d like to see more ingredients info and maybe some more images and content.
Recap:
Well I’d say it was worth the wait especially for the taste. This is not a really strong drink but it gives you a nice alertness (think a cup of coffee) with no jitters. It contains no Taurine which some will appreciate. If you’re looking for a great refreshing energy drink I suggest you try this one over ice or really chilled down cold. It really offers the best of both the coffee and the cola world.
