Rip It Code Blue

This is my second of the new Rip It 20 bottle reviews. There are several of these and I have them all. I was not impressed with the Mojito flavor so I thought I’d try something a little my typical flavor wise. Code Blue is supposed to be a Blueberry/Raspberry flavor. I will give Rip it kudos for coming out with a slew of new flavors and not just putting their original flavors in bigger bottles.
Packaging: Rip it Code Blue comes in a unique curvaceous 20 oz bottle. The bottle is tall and kind of has feet at the bottom and a large screw off resealable lid. With a 20 oz drink the screw on lid is a big plus over the can because who wants to drink 20 oz all at once. The label is a light blue with a big X pattern in the middle. In the middle is the Rip It logo in a nice black, blue, and white font. At the bottom is the flavor “Code Blue” followed by an image of a blueberry and a raspberry. It is not a bad package over all but the shrink wrap label does not work well with the feet on the bottom of the bottle. Grade C
Slogan: “Rip it and reseal it” is there on the bottle. I get the point that they are pushing the fact that the bottle is resealable. Still it is just not a great slogan that make me think of energy. I’ll still give them a grade of C+
Taste: Twisting off the lid I get a nice blueberry scent. I pour some in a cup and it comes out a deep rich blue color with very light carbonation. Taking a sip it comes off like a blueberry Kool-Aid. I’m not sure how much carbonation is supposed to be in this drink but mine had hardly any and this makes it like Kool-Aid. I don’t really taste the raspberry at all. There is no after taste and surprisingly it is not over the top sweet. Really it is a great take on Blueberry. I will give it a C+ for taste.
Kick/Ingredients: I sipped on the drink until it was gone expecting a big buzz from the whole 20 oz consumed in a 20 min period. I did get a boost in energy but it was more like a typical 8 oz energy drink. I did not get super buzzed or jittery. My energy lasted about 3 hours and then it was more like code red code red! as I crashed like a helicopter with 1 blade and no gas. So what is in these 20 ounces? 255 mg Caffeine, 2525 mg Taurine, Guarana, Inositol, 100% dv B vitamins, and a good dose of vitamin C. This comes with 325 calories and 82.5 grams of carbs and sugar. It is sweetened with HFC. That sounds like a lot but somehow it just does not deliver? Grade D+ for kick
Web Presence: Still after all the months I been checking the website at ripitenergy.com nothing has changed. It is pretty much just a static page with some images and a store locator. Still no drink info at all. I give it a grade of D for web presence. I hope to see that change by the time I review the next flavor. Grade D
Recap:
Wow for a drink with all this sugar and calories I really expect a better pay off. I am confused since it has plenty of energy ingredients listed. I get a better buzz from the original 16 oz cans from Rip it(which I recommend). I think they have the right idea with these bottles but it seems something has gone awry. I think maybe the carbonation might have leaked out some leaving in flat in more ways than one. The flavor of this drink is pretty good but if you are looking for the buzz to go with it you might want to stick with their canned energy drinks.
