RootJack Pirate Energy drink

Well I though it was a strange coincidence when I read about this new pirate energy drink. I have been playing Sid Meier’s Pirates game on my PSP the last couple of weeks and was in a pirate state of mind. To top it off this sounded like a unique drink so I was happy when I got my hands on a few bottles to sample.
Packaging: Well they start out right with a brown glass bottle. Really Root beer is best out of a brown glass bottle for some reason. The bottle has a gold twist off lid. The label on the front is orange with a tropical outline. The name “RootJack” is at the top and is a nice pirate looking font. Below the name is the RootJack logo which is a female Pirate sitting on a cannon with a sword and a parrot. There is a little white sun image by the logo that reads “Fights Scurvy” at the bottom it reads “Pirate Energy Drink”. Back has nutrition facts. I really like this packaging job. The bottle is right for root beer and the logo is cool and fun. Grade B+ for packaging. This will grab some attention.
Slogan: Well all I could find was “Fights Scurvy”. I like it because it is good campy fun with the whole Pirate theme. I still think there is a really great slogan waiting to be used for this drink. Grade C for slogan
Taste: So it is supposed to be Root Beer with a hint of orange. Twisting off the cap I get a really nice authentic root beer smell with a hit of orange. I pour some in a cup and it comes out dark brown with a really nice root beer head of foam. Taking a sip I get some nice spicy root beer up front but then you get a good dose of orange washing over it. It’s more than a hint of orange flavor for sure. It is very unique like if you mixed a root beer and an orange soda together. I tried it over ice and the flavor was much better that way as the chill let the root beer flavor shine through better. Really it was unique and very thirst quenching. After a long day of raiding ports, attacking ships, and digging up treasure I think this would really hit the spot. Grade B for taste.
Kick/Ingredients: Ok so it was easy to drink down and so I did just that. In the usual 15 or so minutes my energy was back to a nice level without being jittery. I was alert and focused. I’d say it was like drinking a large cup of coffee. It got me going good and kept me alert for 3+ hours with no crash. I was able to make several people walk the plank and hang one guy from the yardarm all with out getting sleepy or coming down with scurvy. So what’s in this Pirate energy drink? 120 mg of caffeine and guarana. I’d say that level qualifies it above the level of an energy soda and in a sword dual it would take out a mountain dew easily. You get 195 calories and 49 grams of carbs and sugar. Grade C for kick.
Web Presence: The website at Rootjack.com is surprisingly good for a small company. It’s filled with information on ingredients, pirate trivia, a fun history of the drink, pirate drink recipes, and more. Really it is fun to spend some time poking around on and I suggest you check it out. Grade B- for web presence.
Recap:
I have to say I was surprised at the amount of caffeine in this drink. I was expecting the typical 80 mg or less. This was a fun and tasty drink to try and I hope you get the chance to check it out. It has a very unique taste, cool looking bottle, and provides an above average kick especially for a drink with just caffeine. I really was impressed with the authentic look and taste of the root beer and don’t think I have had a root beer energy drink that was more like a regular root beer. Really if you were a pirate this would be the only drink you could serve your crew without risking mutiny.
