Posse Up!

Seattle’s Best Iced mocha

RTD(ready to drink) coffees seem to be gaining in popularity lately. Seattle’s Best is a subsidiary of the mighty Starbucks. Think of it as Starbucks little brother. These rtd coffees come in 3 flavors and I’m looking forward to trying them all.

Packaging: Ok se we have a 9.5 oz can which is different. I did a little research and this is the same size as the Frappuccino bottles from Starbucks. I think the design is nice and mature. It has the Seattle’s Best coffee logo and a nice Seattle skyline image. Really the coloring, graphics and font all say coffee to me, nothing fancy just coffee. This will appeal to many consumers.  Grade B

Slogans:  “Uncommonly smooth” is the slogan they have and it works well with the overall image and market I think. Not fancy but then that is the point I think, Grade B-

Taste ect: So when I open the can I get a really nice chocolate scent with a hint of coffee. Pouring some in a cup it comes out a light brown color and has a foamy head on it. I take a sip and it is a really smooth creamy chocolate taste with very little coffee flavor. Don’t get me wrong it all comes together as a mocha but the coffee taste is just very much hidden in the background. It sweet, creamy and, free of any bitterness. I would say it is pretty much similar to a Frappuccino as far as consistency and flavor goes. Pretty tasty stuff. Grade B

Kick/Ingredients: After drinking this down (it went very quickly) I noticed I had my pep back. It was about 1am and I was feeling a bit run down. I was pretty busy at work and the thought of a hot cup of coffee was not appealing at all. This was a great fix for that. I got a really nice strong coffee boost that lasted me a good 3 hours which was just right. It was too late for an energy drink since I want to be able to sleep after work. This drink was perfect for my needs. There was little to no crash at the end and I had cruised through my last few hours on night shift with plenty of energy. Seattle’s Best Iced Mocha is simple in its ingredients. Coffee, reduced fat milk and sugar are the main ingredients (in that order). You have 130 calories, 2 grams of fat, 24 grams of sugars and carbs. You also get 3 grams of protein and some calcium to boot. I give it a grade of B- for kick/ingredients. This is compared to other RTD coffees not energy drink or shots

Web presence:  The website at seattlesbest.com is a nice site to visit but there was no info on these new drinks. I’ll give them a grade of NA for the time being since they are new.

Recap:

When it comes to RTD coffees this one is pretty damn good. It is smooth and creamy. It also provides a nice coffee kick to get you going. I think the price point will be a bit lower than Starbucks RTD coffees making it a nice value as well. If you’re looking for a bold coffee taste you might want to skip this one since it is more on the creamy sweet side. If you like Frappuccinos and other similar type drinks then this is one you want to check out. Keep an eye out for it and let me know what you think.
