Make you want to slap yo Mama

Slap Energy Shot. Crisp Apple

With so many energy shots out there I rarely get excited when I see a new one. This time it was different though. Slap makes some great tasting energy drinks. The fact that it is Tea+Energy in a shot is a unique take. I am glad I finally got my hands on some to see if it is as good as I hope.

Packaging:  Slap  energy shot crisp apple starts it off right by not using the typical 2 oz whit plastic bottle. Slap Energy Shot comes in a 2 oz bottle but it is a taller slim bottle made from Silver plastic. The bottle has a green lid that is unique as well in that it is has high ridges which give it an aggressive look. The label on the silver bottle is mostly green. There is a yellow section at the top of the label that has the name “Slap” in the usual Slap font and is white. Below the name is the “Energy Shot” in a red font.  In the middle of the label is the Slap logo that is always cool with the face and hand combo. The background for this shot seems different than their energy drinks though. Faintly in the green background is what appears to be a jungle scene complete with a little grass hut in the lower right. Not sure if anyone else would look this close but hey I’m edjunkie so I notice these details. At the bottom in a yellow font is “Tea + Energy” with the flavor “Crisp Apple” below in red and white font. Back has supplement facts. I am giving this package a grade of B+. I think it really stands out well with its silver bottle and the aggressive green lid. This is a unique package that will catch your eye at the check out counter.  I like the cool jungle scene as well.

Slogan:  It is not on the bottle but on the website you have this “Say Hello to my little friends” man you gotta love a Scarface quote. I think it works well with theses being the smaller version of Slap energy drinks. It also is super cool and makes me want to go watch the classic movie again. Really Tony Montana had a lot of energy in that movie. Grade B for slogan.

Taste: I twist off the top and I get the scent of apple. It is not the green apple candy smell but more of a real red apple smell. Peering into the bottle it is a totally clear liquid which looks pretty cool with the inside of the bottle being silver. I take a sip and it a nice apple flavor. It’s not a super sweet apple candy and it’s not apple juice. It more like a real apple would taste. Then at the finish there is just the slight organic flavor of the green tea. There is not aftertaste or vitamin flavor at all. I’m impressed that without being overly sweet or overly tart the energy ingredients are totally masked. Truly one of the most original shot flavors I have tried. Grade B+ for taste

Kick/Ingredients:  I slammed it down and waited about 15 minutes. I was not jolted with massive energy but I was gradually lifted up to a strong mid level buzz. There were no jitters at all. The energy from Slap is always so smooth that you hardly notice how buzzed you are. Next thing you know you’re caught up on your work and looking for more to do. I drank this shot on the first night shift of the week which is always tough since I am usually awake a good 20+ hours by the time I get off work. This Slap energy shot kept me going easily 5 hours and maybe even a bit longer.  The energy ingredients in this shot are Isomaltulose, Guarana, Taurine, Caffeine 125mg, Yerba mate, Green tea solids, and vitamins B3, B6, and B12 in decent amounts. one very unique thing is how this shot is sweetened. Dextrose, Fructose, Aspartame, Ace K, and Sucralose are all used. Had to be a lot of thought put into that and it probably explains the taste. I can’t say I have ever seen such a mix of sweeteners. This shot comes in at 10 calories, 3 grams of carbs, and 2 grams sugars. Grade B for kick/ingredients

Web Presence: slapdrinks.com  is a nice site that is easy to navigate and has easy to find info like product info, Team Slap, events, locations where you can buy Slap drinks and shots, and downloads.  They also have a Myspace that is up-to-date. I’m still waiting for something to show up in their mixology section though and they also need to add ingredients info for these new shots. Still over all a pretty good site that is maintained well. B- for web presence.

Recap:

I have to give it to Slap on this one. They came out with a very unique package. Then they added a great unique taste combined with a good mid level long lasting kick. They could have just gone with the typical but then I don’t think that is the kind of company Slap is. If you are a fan of energy shots you really need to get your hands on this one. It might be a true 6 hour energy shot and you are going to love the taste. Look for the silver bottle it should stand out well next to all the regular shots out there.
