I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok
Spam energy drink

Ok so a reader in Finland hooked me up with some energy drinks from overseas so I could see how they rank. Of course I was very happy with this and even happier when I saw one of them was Spam energy drink. Not sure why it is called spam but I am sure it has nothing to do with the canned meat product.
Packaging: Comes in a 250ml can which is pretty much the same as your typical 8.4 oz energy drink can. The label on the can is black and yellow which is one of my favorite color combos and one I don’t often see on an energy drink. Right in the middle is the “Spam” logo which has an edgy look to it with it’s shaky black font against a damaged yellow rectangle. Above the logo it reads “Living on the edge” in a yellow font. Further up on the can is a sliver fly all alone by itself. At the bottom of the can it reads “Special Edition” in a shaky silver font. Back has supplement facts. Not a bad can at all but I don’t really get the whole fly thing. I do like the fonts used and the coloring but maybe with a different name the package design would work better. Grade B- for packaging
Slogan: “Living on the edge” is the best I could find and it is a fairly good slogan. Once again though the name Spam just does not connect with “living on the edge” Grade C+ for slogan
Taste: So I pop the top and pour some in a glass. The scent is that of a classic RB clone. The liquid is a light caramel color with a low carbonation level. Taking a sip I get a straight up classic energy drink flavor with a bubblegum and apple mix and some hints of white grape. It is not gummy really but it is fairly sweet. There is only a hint of aftertaste and no bitterness. Not a lot to say except that this is a totally average energy drink flavor. Not bad but nothing you have not tried before. It’s a decent RB clone though and I will give it a grade of C+
Kick/Ingredients: I drank it down quickly for maximum effect. If 15 minutes or so I noticed my level of alertness had ramped up. I had more energy and felt like getting some stuff done. I had a smooth level of energy with no jitters. It was a low level buzz and was more like you would get from a cup of coffee. My alertness lasted about 3 hours before gradually fading with no crash. So what is in Spam energy drink? Caffeine 75 mg, Taurine 1000 mg, Glucuronolactone, Inositol, and B vitamins. It is sweetened with sugar and Glucose syrup. It comes in at about 115 calories. Grade C for kick/ingredients
Web Presence: The website at spam-energydrink.com is actually pretty nice. It has a theme that is “Spam City”. It is a nice flash site with a professional look and easy navigation. There are areas to visit like an about section with ingredients info, a gallery, a download section, and a store that is” coming soon”. It seems to not be very up to date but it has potential is someone kept it up. It is worth a look and it does have a fly buzzing around the site like the fly on the can? Grade B- for web presence. Needs more content and also need to be kept up.
Recap:
Overall I was not impressed with Spam energy drink. It not a bad drink but it really has nothing new to offer. The taste is ok and it would make a fair substitute for a Red Bull. It’s low on gumminess and provides a light kick without a load of calories.
