Spiderman is having you for dinner tonight
Spider

It’s not often lately that I get my hands on a true classic style energy drink from a new company. Lately it seems I get either energy shots or energy drinks that have a niche in mind. Really who wants to take on the big boys like Monster and their lot? It’s a sad fact but it is the state of things at the moment. Apparently the guys at Masters of Beverages are not scared though. They have the experience and connections and think they can stir things up a bit with their new Spider energy drink
Packaging: Well when you know your target (males 17 to 37) you can bring out a package that appeals well to them. Spider has done just that. Its sleek black can with the orange spider logo and the larger grayish spider in the background is a great choice. I like the edgy looking orange font as well. This is a great can that their target market will like a lot. It is aggressive but not so much as to scare of the older crowd. I can tell they put some thought into this package and it paid off. It is not too busy but it is easily identifiable as an energy drink. Grade B+
Slogan: “Get Bit Stay Lit” is clearly there on the can. This is how you do it folks. Unique, catchy, drink specific. Grade A
Taste: Popping the orange tab on top I get a nice orange scent. I pour some in a cup and it comes out a bright translucent orange color with a mid level of carbonation. I take a sip and it has a nice candy orange flavor up front with some hints of lemon and mixed citrus developing as you drink more. It is not a cloying sweet orange but it has a good sweetness that works well. There is no after taste or bitterness to be found. I think that got their flavor just right on all levels. Grade B
Kick/Ingredients: Drinking down the can late one night I felt the bite right away. I got a really potent boost of full sugar energy. It was somewhat jittery and it took away the web of sleepiness I was feeling and replaced it with an ear to ear grin and a LOT of energy. I was talkative and happy and really tore through some work. This is a very social type buzz that has you wanting to talk to people and just have a good time. The whole can carried me through around 4 hours of energy and the crash was not too bad for a full sugar drink. This spider is one deadly arachnid when it comes to energy. It’s not a unique line up of ingredients but it is a potent one consisting of the following per can. Caffeine 240 mg, Taurine 2000 mg, Ginseng 200 mg, Guarana 200 mg, L-Carnitine, L-Glutamine, and B vitamins in the 200 to 500 % DV range (higher than most). You get this with 220 calories and 54 grams of sugar and carbs. It is sweetened with Sugar and Glucose. Grade B+ for kick/ingredients
Web Presence: They have got all areas trapped in their web when it comes to web presence. They have spiderenergy.com which has just gotten going and is looking pretty good with product info, a store, a cool bartending video set, and more. Then they have getbitstaylit.com which is their blog. To top that off they have Myspace, and Twitter wrapped up. I’m giving them a grade of B
Recap:
Ok all you fans of Monster and Rockstar and the likes here is a drink you need to check out. It got a cool edgy can, it has great taste, and it has better kick than the drinks you are used to. Stop being a sheep and break away from the flock. Spider energy should be showing up around you soon and I suggest you buy some. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
