Tonix Energy Soda

You know sometimes you just want a soda. I mean I love energy drinks but I’m not always looking for a big boost. My drink of choice at these times has been Mountain Dew. It had more caffeine than a regular soda but not too much. Later Vault came around and it was good as well. They both came in a diet version which is good since I don’t always want all those calories. The diet taste of these drinks was just not that good though. They both also had similar taste. I kind of got tired of it really. So I was excited to see this new drink Tonix Energy soda.  It was different looking and was all natural. Would it stand up to the King of energy sodas?

Packaging:  Tonix comes in a 12 oz glass bottle with a resealable twist off lid. Very old school which is nice. I am a big fan of drinks in glass bottles. I just think they taste better than drinks from cans. You can see the cranberry red drink inside the clear bottle. The lower portion of the bottle has grey paper label. At the top of the label it reads “ All natural Low-Calorie Energy Drink” in a white font. In the middle is the Logo which is ToniX in a Black and white font with the X being red. There is a red dot in the O and in the dot on the i.  Really the logo grabs your attention with its quirky design. You see it and you are intrigued. Below the logo it reads “Energy Soda”. The back has the usual ingredients information. I really like the glass bottle and the logo. It has the look of many of the premium regular sodas and that usually means quality. I will give them a grade of B for packaging.

Slogan:  At first I could not find a real slogan but I did dug deep around on their website (here at edjunkie.com we don’t half ass it) and I found one. “When healthy Matters” is the slogan. They really need to play that one up more since Tonix in a healthy all natural energy soda. I will give them a grade of B for slogan. If it is more prominently displayed then I think it could really work well at getting the message out to those looking for a healthy alternative.

Taste:  With most energy drinks you are willing to give up some of the flavor for the kick. With a soda I expect a better flavor. I open the bottle and get a slight sweet berry smell as I pour the red drink into a glass. It has a mild carbonation and looks very translucent. Sometimes with all natural products you get some cloudiness but not here, it is crystal clear. I take a sip and it has a very unique taste. It is a mixed berry flavor but not your usual berry flavor. I believe it is the Black currant that jumps out the most but if you look at the ingredients you will see this overall blend of berries is not your typical berry flavors. It is slightly sweet but not syrupy at all and it has a light clean mouth feel. This drink would go well over ice I think. It is very refreshing. I will give it a grade of A- for flavor. I drank several and each time was ready for another. It even went well with a meal and I can’t say that about most energy drinks.

Kick/ingredients.  Tonix is 100% all natural and low calorie. I got a nice mild boost each time I drank a Tonix. It is a little above the boost of a Mountain Dew or Vault and just a tad lower than a Red Bull. The boost lasted about 3 hours which is longer than other energy sodas. There are 53mg of caffeine(on par with MD) but there is more good stuff. 2000% DV of B12, 300% DV of B6, and 100% DV of both Vitamin C and B3. Then you have your energy blend of Acetyl L Carnitine, Arginine, Glutamine,  Milk Thistle seed extract, and taurine. As you can see way more than other energy sodas. To top all that off you only have 35 calories and 9 grams of sugar and carbs! They get this all to taste good by using Stevia and cane sugar to sweeten and Extracts of chokeberry, blueberry, elderberry, Black Currant, and apple. No preservative at all in this drink.  I will give them a grade of B for Kick/ingredients. You get a nice mild non jittery boost with some staying power and the ingredients are all top notch. You won’t felt guilty in any way for drinking this soda.

Web presence:  Nice little flash site for Tonix at tonixenergy.com. For a small company it looks very professional and yet very mom and popish. It has all the information you need like an about us section, products page with ingredients information, a press page, and a contact section. I like the layout because it is easy to navigate and the overall theme flows well. It is definitely worth a look. I will give them a grade of B for web presence. Not a lot out there besides the official site but it is a nice one.
Recap:

I really hope this drink gets a good distribution. I’d love to be able to pick up some at my local grocery store. It could easily take the place of all my other sodas. It is a very versatile drink I think. I also think it would make a good mixer and if I had any bottles left I would be giving that a try. I will tell you that if you are looking for a healthier energy drink/soda you can’t go wrong with Tonix. They did not sacrifice taste in the name of health in this one. If you see it I suggest you try one. Hell try two since it is low-calorie and natural you can afford drink several.
