Upshot Energy shot 5 Berry
Upshot comes with a serious pedigree in the healthy drink category. The founder of Upshot started out at Odwalla creating functional healthy juice drinks. He decided to leave the company and develop shots that were more about the function. Upshot is different that your typical energy shot being more natural and healthy. I’m looking forward to trying them all. I’ll start with the 5 berry
Packaging: Upshot 5Berry comes in a unique 2.5 oz plastic bottle with a metal screw on lid. The bottle is shrink wrapped in a purple plastic label with. The bottle is uniquely shaped which makes it stand out amongst your typical energy shots. On the front it Reads “Upshot” and “Energy shot” in the middles and below that is the Upshot symbol which consists of some arrows in different purple shades pointing up. Below the arrows is the flavor “5Berry”. On the back are supplement facts and a paragraph about the drink. On the lid is the upshot symbol as well as the phrases “Shake me” “Drink Me”. I like this shot container. It has a nice shape and is just slightly bigger than most. It is not overly busy with too much info and has a clean mature look. I give it a grade of B for packaging.
Slogans: Right on the back of the bottle it reads “Super. Natural. Power”. I think that is one really good slogan. If you say it right it is like it has power that is supernatural or just power that is natural and super. Right after I wrote this I saw a retail display and it had this slogan “More Energy No Bull” I love that one and it raises my grade to A.
Taste ect: Following the directions on the lid I shake it up real good. I can see through the clear bottom of the bottle there is a little sediment. This tells me this is not some over processed chemical drink but that it contains real natural ingredients. I pop open the top and take a whiff. It has a very organic berry smell that is actually very nice. I take a sip and it taste like it smells. I can taste the blackberry melded with the pomegranate upfront with a hint of blueberry and Goji berry after it lingers. Goji berries I think are kind of similar to cranberries in flavor. I guarantee you have not tasted a shot like this before. I get no bitterness at all and even a while after you finish it the taste lingers pleasantly. If you like organic drinks then this shot is the one for you flavor wise. Grade B+ for taste
Kick/Ingredients: I tried several of on several occasions before writing this review. The first time I was blown away so I tried it again to see if I got the same results. Let me tell you. I drank the entire shot both times and I got identical experiences. In 10 or so minutes I was super jacked up. I was talking, I was pacing, I was animated, I had a huge grin on my face. This is one potent shot! I was wired up good for at least 5 hours each time. The high level buzz was full on for pretty much the whole 5 hours before winding down at the end. Sure there were a little bit of the jitters and there was a mild crash but you can’t go up this high without expecting that. Ingredients are top notch as well with energy from a PhytoXan blend of plant based methylxanthines, theobromine, theophyline from guarana, green tea extract, kola nut and caffeine. Total caffeine from all sources comes in at 200 mg. It is sweetened with liquid sucrose and has 14.5 grams of sugar and 64 calories. This 5 berry version also has Pomegranate, Red Raspberry, Blackberry, Blueberry , and Goji berry. All these berries have very high antioxidant properties. So not only do you feel good but you feel good about drinking it as well since it seems so healthy. Grade A for kick/ingredients
Web presence: Pretty good site at upshotenergy.com. It is nicely laid out and easy to navigate. You get plenty of info like a faq, news, store, media, events, testimonials, products and ingredients, and recipes. They cover all the bases in a straight forward fashion. It’s not over the top flashy but it is well done and informative. I give them a grade of B for web presence.
Recap:
As you can see this is really one of the better options out there when it comes to energy shots. Even if you could care less about how healthy it is you still will want this for its superior kick. When you combine the healthy natural ingredients with the great taste and the kick then you have what I consider one of the top 3 shots available in my opinion. Get some soon and I’m sure you will agree. One other good thing is that if you don’t like this flavor they have 3 others as well.
