Hit me with your best shot

V8 energy shot

Ok so like I said in my V8 energy drink review we finally have a big company getting into the healthy energy options. This time it is an energy shot. Not just a shot but one that provides a full combined 1 serving of fruits and vegetables. How will it taste? Will it wake you up? Let’s find out

Packaging:  It come in a nice curvy 2.5 oz shot bottle. The word ENERGY is in bold green on black right up front so you know what it is. The V8 logo is there as well as an image and some other text. A little cluttered but informative and laid out so well it somehow works. Some designer really knows his or her stuff! Grade B+

Slogan: “Open your eyes people” is right on the website. It is not bad. It is not drink specific so I am kinda disappointed there but overall it is not bad. Grade C+

Taste:  Ok so I twist off the lid and get a nice fruity natural scent. I pour some in a cup and it is a dark red slightly thick liquid. You can tell this is a 100% healthy juice product. Taking a sip I get a variety of flavors. It is sweet but I can pick out a variety of mixed fruits, as well as some carrot and hint tomato. This is a very natural tasting shot with no real bitterness or aftertaste. I am very impressed. Grade B+

Kick/Ingredients: I tried this shot twice. 1 time to get the day started and another time to beat the afternoon slump. Both times it performed better than I expected. It hit me in about 10 minutes. I got a nice boost of non jittery energy. I would put this easily on par with your typical shot. 4 hours of good alert energy with no crash at the end.  But there is a lot more to this shot that makes it stand out. 9 juices from tomatoes, purple carrots, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, cherries, strawberries, red raspberries, and blackberries. The caffeine comes from green tea(similar to 1 cup of coffee). There is also 100% vitamin C as well as moderate amounts of B Vitamins. You get this with 150 calories, 25 grams of carbs, and 5 grams of sugar. It is sweetened with the juices and some sucralose. Grade B
Web Presence:  There is a website just for this shot at v8energyshots.com  and it is a fairly nice site. It provides good product info as well as a Faq, locator, and a schedule of sampling events.  There is also the V8 Facebook page but no mention of this shot yet. Grade B

Recap:

Ok so here we have a really good healthy shot. You get a lot of good for you stuff, good energy, and it taste good also which is a plus for something healthy. I am very impressed and now you have a shot you can feel good about drinking. I have read that they are going for the “senior” market but don’t let that keep you away if you are younger we can all use a healthier alternative. No it is not going to jack you up like a 16 oz sugar filled Monster but then again you won’t have the crash and all that sugar. Keep an eye out for these shots and let me know what you think!
