Venom bite Cold Blast Arctic Punch

When the first drinks from Venom were released I lamented in my review that I was disappointed in their lack of originality. They just made a Red Bull clone. Then when they released the new Venom drinks they redeemed themselves by making some the Punch and the mango flavors that were great. I can’t wait to see which way they go in the energy shot category. I am kind of disappointed they did not use an exotic snake name this time.  They could have went with the  Black Cobra or something.

Packaging:   Typical of most new shots from the big companies Venom Bite Cold Blast comes in the taller glossy black 3 oz shot bottle. Venom  uses their familiar snake eye logo which is great and the name with the dripping fang font is cool as ever. Over all this is an aggressive and cool looking package. Grade B+ for packaging

Slogan:  “Feel the might of Venom Bite” is on the bottle mixed into a little paragraph. It is pretty good as far as slogans go and fits the aggressive look and snake theme of Venom energy products. This is how you make a catchy slogan. Grade A-

Taste: I open the top and the scent is that of a nice fruit punch. I pour some in a cup and it is deep red. Taking a sip I get some nice sweet cherry fruit punch then I’m like WTF! I am bludgeoned with an ass load of menthol at the finish. I have had drinks with a cooling effect before but not at this level. It’s like a cherry halls cough drop or cherry cough syrup. It also brings to mind cherry Nyquil. It is awful and actually upset my stomach. This is the menthol taste hung around like a relative you don’t like from out of town. It just would not go away. Even after scarfing down some chili cheese Fritos it was still there.  Grade D- for taste

Kick/Ingredients:  Well 15 minutes after drinking this shot I was hit with a blast of energy. I was very awake and energized. This was a good solid buzz with some mild jitters and jumbled speech when talking too fast. The buzz lasted a good 4 hours with little to no crash. Ingredients amounts are not listed on the bottle but it contains 160 mg caffeine, Taurine, Guarana, Inositol, Glucuronolactone, L-Carnitine, Ginseng, and a fair amount of B vitamins. Pretty good kick for sure and above your average shot. Grade B

Web Presence: The website at venomenergy.com is ok. You will find all their products listed and some images of the cool bottles. You can also look at Ambassadors which are athletes who are associated with Venom. There is ingredients info but it is only the nutrition label from the drinks. It looks cool but lacks a lot of substance. Grade C

Recap:

Ok so I don’t mind a little mint flavoring but this was more menthol. Really I have heard people claim come drinks and shots taste like cough syrup. Well if they tried this one they would know that this one really does. It looks cool and has a solid kick but I think you can find other shots that taste better and provide the kick you need. I hope they come out with another flavor for their shots and this time name it after a snake and make it taste at least tolerable. Then again if your someone who loves cough syrup and needs a good energy boost then this is probably a shot you are going to love.
